    Event Schedule Text Adapter setup

We have an event list in a tab delimited file that we would like to import into Axistv as a slide. Can you send me instructions on how to do that?

    Thanks,

    Jesse

Re: Event Schedule Text Adapter setup

    Solution:

The AxisTV Event Schedule Text Adapter allows you to configure the Text Adapter to copy events rendered in text files into the AxisTV database. The user's scheduling system must be able to regularly render the event schedule data into a text file in a format that is compatible with AxisTV, i.e., CSV (comma-delimited) or Tab-delimited, and that is visible to the AxisTV content manager. Then, the AxisTV content manager can be configured to automatically pull the data from the text file on a regular interval specified by the AxisTV System Administrator. Once the data is in the AxisTV database, users can create Event Schedule bulletins to display the event data.

The requirements are that the data include: Event Description, Event Date, Start Time, Stop Time, Building, Room, Event Status, and Event Type. Dummy data may be entered in the Event Status and Event Type fields if they are not being used. Additional fields may be present in the text file, but must be configured to be ignored.

The Text Adapter can recognize most normal date/time formats for Event Date, Start Time, and Stop Time.

The Event Description, Event Building and Room, Event Status and Event Type fields will accept upper and lower case letters, numbers, and special characters. The Event Description field will accept up to 255 characters, and the Event Building and Room, Event Status and Event Type fields will accept up to 100 characters.

The text file must contain the data only. No header is allowed, and there must not be more than one carriage return at the end of the data.

The AxisTV Event Management plugin is designed so that a user can create one or more auto-updating event schedule bulletins to display the event data. This is accomplished from the Create | Event Schedule Bulletin screen. The event schedule bulletins are then scheduled to one or more playlists in the same manner as any other bulletin.

Any user who is granted the privilege to Manage Events will be able to control how the AxisTV system obtains event data. Any user who is granted the privilege to Create Bulletin will be able to create an event bulletin to display the event data. Privileges in AxisTV are grouped into roles, and roles are assigned to users. This is managed on the Configure | Security | Roles screen.

For complete instructions on the event text file import feature, go to Configure | Event Schedule | Text Adapter, and click on the online help "?" balloon in the upper right-hand corner. The event data import can also be automated using the Configure | Event Schedule | Periodic Text Import page.
