    AxisTV Desktop Messenger Deployment --XML File not being read

    When running setup.exe the setup file does not read the XML and pull the configuration information. We would like this to be automated since we don't want to configure by hand.

    The server configuration is setup and the XML file is as below (blanked out our servername with Xs):

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
    <DesktopMessengerConfiguration>

      <MessageDelivery
                        PublisherURL="http://AxistvXXXXXX/DesktopPublisher/DesktopGateway.asmx"
                        UseDefaultProxy="True"
                        ProxyDomain=""
                        ProxyUsername=""
                        ProxyPassword=""
                        UpdateFrequency="5" />
      <DistributionList

                        HasDefault="False"
                        DefaultId=""
                        DefaultName="Everyone" />

    <MessageStorageAndAppearance

                        DaysInHistory="1"
                        PopupTransparency="10"
                        PopupWidth="320" />

    </DesktopMessengerConfiguration>

    Hi johnb

    Automation configuration of the Desktop Messenger client is achieved through the use of a special XML file,
    named DesktopMessengerConfiguration.xml, that is placed in the installation folder
    (usualy: C:\Program Files\Visix\AxisTV Desktop Messenger) along with the messenger’s executables.  When the messenger client begins execution,
    it looks for this file and, if found, reads the file and applies all the settings in the file.  Once the settings have
    been applied, the messenger then deletes the configuration file.  The presence of the file indicates that it
    should be processed –but only when the messenger client first launches.
    All items in the messenger’s configuration dialog are represented in the XML file.The three most important
    parameters are the publisher’s URL, the default distribution list’s Id (which is a UUID),
    and the proxy credentials, if any.

    Thank you,

    Re: AxisTV Desktop Messenger Deployment --XML File not being read

    Hi,

    That is what I am saying the automation configuration is not being achieved. We have the XML there in the Programs Folder and it does not work. The file is not deleted. The AxisTV Desktop Messenger is not configured. The XML file was given to us by a Visix tech support person through a WebEx session on our server. His parting comment to our analyst was, "If this XML file does not work, I don't know what to tell you."

    So even if the XML file is in the %system drve%\Program Files\Visix\AxisTV Desktop Messenger folder; the automatic configuration does not take place at installation, at log off and log on, or even a reboot.

     Hi it has been over a month. The Visix tech had the name of the XML file incorrect but still it only configures half-way (it does not set up the subscription).

    Hi John,

    Just a follow up to see whether or not you were able to test the DesktopMessenger  auto-configuration .xml file. I asked James, one of my techs, to work with you on that issue and it looks like he provided you with the tools to successfully test the auto-configure process. Give us a feedback.

    Thank you,
